Founded in 1906, The Illinois Club is one of few entities on campus that takes pride in celebrating over 100 years of history! When we began as the Tuesday Tea Club, little did those women envision that today our membership would be 25% men and that we would be awarding $20,000 in scholarships every year.

The purpose of our Club is to build the University of Illinois and surrounding Champaign-Urbana communities by promoting friendship and education. This purpose is achieved through interest groups, campus tours, University of Illinois scholarship awards, and special events.

The heart of The Illinois Club, where great friendships begin, are the many INTEREST GROUPS it sponsors. Many of these groups appeal to both men and women, resulting in a diverse membership. Groups usually meet one or more times a month in members' homes, or at other locations. Daytime, evening, or weekend meeting times are arranged by the group. Some group meetings are listed in the Community Calendar section of the Sunday News-Gazette, with information on how to contact the host.

The Illinois Club also organizes a number of events available to all members throughout the year. A few events are for Club members only, but most are open to family members and guests. Check our CALENDAR for upcoming events and dates.

Among our events are field trips to interesting locations in Illinois and surrounding states. These are described on our website under TOURS, in the newsletter, and in the Community Calendar section of the Sunday News-Gazette. Our campus tours are described in our newsletter, weekly E-TIC news, and website under TOURS.

We also have a variety of social and educational events and programs to welcome prospective members who are new to the University of Illinois community. In addition to general membership Club outings, we have a welcome reception and other activities planned just for you, as a part of each year's schedule of events. These can be found under NEWCOMERS.

The Club is a registered University organization and represents Illinois at the biennial conference of the Big Ten University Women's Clubs.

Newcomers Event - Evening of Dinner Theater

Sunday, February 22, 2015; 6:00 and 8:00pm
Silver Creek Restaurant, 223 N Broadway Ave., Urbana, 6pm, and
Station Theatre, 223 N Broadway Ave., Urbana, 8pm.
www.couriersilvercreek.com/silvercreek/
stationtheatre.com

We start at 6:00 with dinner at Silvercreek, 402 N. Race St., in Urbana. We then move down the train tracks to a community theater gem, the Station Theatre, 223 N. Broadway, for an 8:00 show of the musical Floyd Collins. If you can join us for both, that's wonderful, or attend only one event. Tickets for Floyd Collins will be discounted to $9 each if we have enough people, and the theater has limited seats, so we need to confirm the number in advance. We'll also need to reserve sufficient space at Silvercreek.

Please RSVP to reneemullen1@comcast.net by Wed. Feb. 11 to advise if you can join us for only Floyd Collins, for both the musical and dinner beforehand, or just for dinner at Silvercreek, and also note how many of you will be attending.

Friday, April 17, 2015

The University of Illinois is commemorating the 100th anniversary of World War I with several events and exhibits in a cross-campus initiative. As part of this initiative, the Sousa Archives and Center for American Music will be hosting exhibits that display how music supported the war effort. On our tour we will visit the archives and will conclude with a World War I themed cocktail hour at Houlihan's featuring two traditional World War I cocktails: the Sidecar and the French 75.
