The Waste Transfer Station, or Materials Recovery Facility, is a unique feature of the University of Illinois. On average, waste management sees about 50,000 pounds of landfill-bound waste come through each day. Learn how the university recycles several million pounds of material (paper, cardboard, aluminum, plastic, vehicle tires, scrap metal) each year. Have you ever wondered what all those burned-out buildings are as you drive down Windsor Road near Neil Street? Now is your opportunity to see them up close! Our Fire Service Institute tour will include a 30 minute presentation and questions period on the science of fire and how dangerous it can be. We will then do a walking tour of the grounds, see the different areas used for training, and observe classes in action. Classes being conducted will include live fire, industrial training, and a couple of other groups on site doing some specialized training. You don't want to miss this amazing opportunity!
